Prior to commencing the procedure, we will initially evaluate the severity of the ear blockage. This assessment involves using an otoscope, a device inserted into the ear canal. Despite initial apprehensions, rest assured that this process is painless and entirely comfortable, albeit a bit unfamiliar.
Once the extent of the blockage is determined, the microsuction procedure will commence, utilizing a tool akin to a "micro sucker." Employing gentle principles akin to a mild vacuum cleaner, a small tube is inserted into the ear, applying a slight suction to remove the troublesome earwax gently.
Microsuction is nothing to fear. The procedure is typically painless, and should a particularly stubborn blockage require extra assistance, the audiologist will soften the earwax beforehand, instead of applying excessive suction. This precaution ensures that the risk to the patient is minimal, even in the most challenging cases.
